Lady ‘scammed out of £1,500’ after conmen put up faux QR codes on parking machines

Scammers have used faux QR codes on parking machines to fleece individuals’s financial institution accounts – with one lady saying she had £1,500 taken.

The bogus stickers have been positioned on pay and show machines and tariff boards throughout Lytham St Annes, Lancs.

Fylde Council stated it had eliminated the faux stickers, however extra had since appeared.

The authority suggested anybody who had used the QR codes to contact Lancashire Police and their financial institution.

The faux codes have been placed on show at Dicconson Terrace automobile park, St Paul’s Avenue and Stanner Financial institution.

Some drivers who’ve used the codes stated cash had been taken from their accounts.

One lady wrote on Fb that she’d used the St Annes seaside automobile park and was scammed to the tune of £1,500.

She stated: ‘I paid for parking, or so I assumed, on the St Anne’s Seaside automobile park utilizing this (QR code) as I had no money.

‘Then £1,500 has gone out of my financial institution! They stated simply 5 minutes after I ‘paid’ somebody tried including my card to their Google Pay.

‘Hopefully I’ll get it again as police, Motion Fraud and the corporate he is ordered issues from with my card have been knowledgeable.

‘Apparently he is used my card to purchase automobile elements in Hinckley (Leicestershire).. My son paid identical means on identical day and so they tried his yesterday too.’

One other sufferer wrote: ‘Me and my companion fell for this on Saturday afternoon. They then tried to take a £44 fee.

‘Thankfully the financial institution refused the fee. All is smart of who was attempting to rip-off us. The title on the financial institution Assertion was BITSA (a digital pay as you go VISA card).’

One other sufferer wrote: ‘I bought achieved by this on Monday. I bought an alert from my financial institution final evening about it. It is all sorted however they tried to make use of it at Sainsburys for £104.’

A council spokesman stated: ‘We have investigated and located stickers with a big QR code have been positioned on a few of our automobile park pay and show machines and tariff boards.

‘Since eradicating these faux QR codes, extra have been positioned together with Dicconson Terrace automobile park, St Paul’s Avenue and Stanner Financial institution.

‘Please don’t scan any, we’re at present working to resolve this situation.’
