Chris Attenborough, chairman of the Whitstable Fishermans Affiliation, instructed KentOnline: ‘One of many fishermen has caught one thing that resembles a mine.
‘It’s totally massive, heavy, cylindrical and has what appears like a propeller at one finish.’
A police spokesman added: ‘We had been contacted this morning following the invention of suspected wartime ordnance by a fishing boat off the coast of Herne Bay.
‘Officers attended together with HM Coastguard and an EOD staff from the Ministry of Defence, who’re coping with the item.’
